Respect Woman?
We live in a very advanced yet diverse
society. It is not sure who will we encounter when we step out of our homes every
day. Life is unpredictable and so are people. On the one hand where this
society offers us a place to live and grow on the other hand it also breeds
crime. Diverse people and their unfavourable circumstances results in their diverse
needs - monetary, emotional or physical …. People wandering and struggling to fulfill their needs are always in a folly to quench them. And unethical means adopted
by them in this quest leads to CRIME.
We cannot be sure who will be a next
victim of this unprecedented crime in the society and what will we have to
loose…
Women have always been a soft target for
evil doers in the society and it keeps increasing with time. Who
should be put to blame? Respect of woman and their safety is
an underlying question.
All I can say is that we have not
taken it seriously YET. Or should I say we have not taken it respectfully as
YET. It is an issue of women dignity and their rights to live as equally as men
in the society. Let’s not wait for an
incident or yet another attack on female victim to arouse this thought. Let’s
not wait for yet another woman liberation movement or a candle light protest to
start with. Let’s think about it right now at this very moment and imbibe it
into our minds.
Yes, I am being a feminist here,
talking very boldly about woman liberation and rights. Well, I am just talking
here about a very important point to create a space for men and women to coexist
together in safety and dignity. Our mind-set, our culture and our feelings
towards women-hood has to be cultivated in a manner to respect this thought and
not intrude anyone’s privacy.
I am not talking about any gender
based bias or reservation for women or nor am I urging the society to treat
them special. But at least we can treat them equal and build an equal level of
respect for everyone irrespective of gender.
Do we blame lack of education for
this? To a large extent, yes, but on a deeper note I don’t really feel so. For
that matter even some of the commonly used abusive words in the society go against the dignity of womanhood. And we, the educated masses of the society, so casually and naturally
adopt or are ignorant about them. I am not saying that makes all of us disrespectful towards woman or
womanhood. But, it spoils the culture and if not anything it aggravates a sense of
cheapness in the society about woman dignity. All evil erupts from evil
thoughts.
It’s a shame if we are so casual about
respect for woman and yet vigilant for their safety. Let’s build a culture to
live and survive for all of us.
Policing and taking very stringent
steps to curb crime, misbehaviour or any other form of exploitation has to be
brought in. But at the same time let’s also build around a strong foundation of
respect and dignity.
Masculinity does not lie in exploiting
a victim or passing indecent comments on women. It is about protecting them….Lets
Respect Woman and their privacy…
