Long Hours @ Work!

It seems to be a tradition of the employees commonly of the IT frenzy companies to spend long working hours in office. It appears as if the employees compete with each other by setting a new record out time every day. Whatever is the reason, I feel it spoils the work culture of the whole office. It is not good to let work spill out of the working hours every day. And the worst is to feel casual about it. With that attitude gradually people tend to sit late even when that is not required.

A notion that working late can help us gain attention at workplace is strange. We must understand that the only high quality work can give us momentum at work, which can only be achieved by looking at ways and means to be more productive at work. And by no means late sitting is one!

Some people do feel that spending more time with their work is a way to express their passion towards it. They don’t realize that it may affect their personal lives and health. There is no better satisfaction than to achieve a good work life balance and by giving our maximum time to work we would only invite troubles in our lives. Sooner or later life will surely make one realize the downside of the imbalance, in its own way...

Personal negligence, inability to complete work on time and disinterestedness could be other crucial reasons for people to over work. However, if such issues persist then the individuals must take proper care about it until late sitting manifests into a habit for them.

However, I think these are some of the specific cases of over work and according to me most of the people feel helpless about this issue. I understand that organizations cannot judge adequacy of time as per employee’s expectations. It is the responsibility of their employees to put their best efforts and discipline to get things done on time. But despite the discipline the freedom to express any discomfort must always be there in the organizations. People must not be kept over occupied all the time and the management must take adequate measures to avoid it. I believe companies which do not have fixed working hours are too undisciplined and not confident on their way of working. People who run business must understand that ethics, time and people are the three important aspects to be managed in a business or rather I can put it as – must be balanced. Money is always the end product. So, ensuring a good discipline at work should be a prime responsibility of the organizations.

I know not all of us know how to manage our time well. But that should not stop us from taking a cautious step towards it. A schedule of work must be there at organization, team and individual level. However, the corrective action must start to flow in the reverse order. J So, let’s start to take some extra efforts to finish our work on time. 8 hours is good time to stay with it.

Life is much more than the jobs we do…let us enjoy it all…
